The share of India in the world oilmeals export market is about 6.3%. India’s one the largest importer of Edible oils. In 2009-10 Indian imports of Edible oil were seen at 8.82 million tons. Of which 5.2 million were CPO.
India is fortunate to have a wide range of oilseeds crops grown in its different agro climate zones. Soybeans, Groundnut, Mustard/Rapeseed, Sesame, Safflower, Linseed, Nigerseed/Castor, and Cottonseeds are the major traditionally cultivated oilseeds. Soybeans and Rape Mustard seed acquires the lion’s share of the overall Oilseeds production in India. They together constitute more than 14 million tons of Oilseeds produced by India every year.
The total Oilseeds production in the world for the year 2010-11 is estimated at 441.78 million tonnes, out of these, Soya bean (256.1), Cotton Seed (43.55), Peanuts (34.70), Sunflower Seed (30.35), Palm Kernel (12.73) and Copra (5.93).
The estimated world vegetable oil production for the year 2010-11 is 145.97 million M.T. Out of this, Palm Oil (47.97), Soybean oil (41.87), Rapeseed oil (22.66), Sunflower oil (11.26), Cotton seed oil (4.97), Peanut oil (4.98), Palm kernel oil (5.65), Coconut oil is (3.67) and Olive oil (2.94).
The world protein meals production for the year 2010-11 is estimated at 258.38 million tons, out of this, Soy bean is (177.56), Rape (34.13), Cotton (14.89), Sunflower (12.07), Peanut (6.03), Palm kernel (6.70), Fish ( 5.05) and Copra (1.95). |
